Margot Robbie Became A Superstar Overnight? How So"
Margot Elise Robbie is an Australian actress and producer.
Before his role in The Wolf of Wall Street, you'd probably be forgiven for not knowing who the Australian actor was – so being one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood changed his fortunes
Well, as Robbie revealed to Harper’s Bazaar it was because he made Leonardo DiCaprio coldcock with an improvised slap.
Robbie recalled his audition with Leo: "We get three lines into it and he says something and, subconsciously, I roll my eyes.
And Leo was like, "What was that looking like?" And I'm thinking, in my head: "That's not a line! Is he really asking me this? Should I explain?" And then I realize he is ad-libbing.
I'm like, "Oh, crap.
He's improving! I need to improve now!"
So I am failing miserably. And Leo's phenomenal. He is powerful. He can do his work and he can do your work with his eyes closed at the same time. I can hardly find a word. Nothing interesting happens when I do this - I just look pathetic.
In my mind I was like, "You really have 30 seconds left in this room and nothing will come of it if you don't do something impressive. This is your chance of a lifetime, just take it." And so I start yelling at him and he's yelling at me.
And that's really scary.
I can hardly stand.
And he ends by saying, "You should be happy to have a husband like me.
Now get over here and kiss me. "
"So I actually walk right up to his face," maybe I should kiss him. Someone else hardly ever gets a chance to kiss Leo DiCaprio, but another part of my brain clicks and I just go, weird! I hit him in the face. And then I scream,
Turns out it was a very smart move...
Robbie continued:
"I'm thinking, 'You just hit Leonardo DiCaprio in the face.
They're going to arrest you because it's an attack.
You're definitely never going to work out again, that's for sure.
If they have bruises on their face and they need to film some more, they will probably sue you too."
And then suddenly Marty and Leo just laughed. Marty says, "That was great!" Leo's like, "Hit me again!"
Martin Scorsese has been a huge fan ever since – he recently wrote a profile on Robbie as one of Time magazine's 'Most Influential 100 People':
"During our first meeting he secured his part in The Wolf of Wall Street—by giving Leonardo DiCaprio a thunderous slap in the face, an improvisation that stunned us all.
This isn't a complete answer to the perennial question, but it is a start.
Margot is stunning in who she is and everything she does, and she will astonish us forever."
